Down At The Marina

I wrote this tune in the mid-90s and finally got around to recording it. The sailing terms highlighted in the lyrics have mouse-over explanations for the uninitiated. Thanks to Ivor Irwin for lyrical assistance.

Lyrics

I think I’ll have another drink
’til my resolve is in no doubt.
I’ve got to tell you how I feel
This time I can’t... I cannot come about.
You’ve been wronged, so you hug your knees.
You’re flapping in this gale.
Come aboard my boat, The Rebound Too
on a perfect night... a perfect night to sail.
You act so surprised
Like I brought the light of day
Just make your mind up right away
The winds are strong down at the marina
Let’s get underway
A fearless move could help relieve
the pins and needles in your heart.
You’ll take the sheet; we’ll breathe the air
just as soon... as soon as we depart.
Don’t be so surprised
It’s just me who’s come to say,
"We’re embarking on a journey right away."
The winds are strong down at the marina
(Make your mind up)
The winds are strong down at the marina
Let’s get underway
Your prison’s not the only thing you should be running from.
Though this sloop is just a temporary hiding place
that won’t spare you from the doldrums or the storms
but I might understand.
And if you go overboard, I will surely be there just in case.
The winds are strong down at the marina
(Make your mind up)
The winds are strong down at the marina
There’s a light gale down at the marina
Let’s go far away
